So you live in the city, dream of owning a farm, but know you never will and crave alpacas......consider agisting which is just an alpaca term for 'boarding', as a viable option. Coming from the city, Jean and Aldo realize that living on a farm to raise alpacas is not always a feasible option for everyone. We therefore invite you to agist/board alpacas at Alpaca Central so you can continue to enjoy the benefits of city life and alpacas. There are no long term contracts required, so should you find that special country property, you are free to move your animals with no obligation, we'll even help you with a farm start up plan. While your animals stay at Alpaca Central, get hands on experience with the alpacas as your time permits.
Annual shearing is a critical task for the health of the alpacas and the key component to the alpaca industry......without the fleece, there is no product. Shearing days can also be a significant social event for your friends and family and an opportunity to introduce them to alpacas. Aldo has been shearing alpacas since 2008, after receiving intensive training from Tom Redpath. Using a shearing table, Aldo has shorn over 500 alpacas and as his schedule permits, is available either as principal shearer or to coach you through your own shearing adventure. All you need to supply are 5 or 6 people as a 'crew' for the event, and Aldo will provide the rest of the equipment and the expertise. To compliment Aldo's shearing skills, Jean is currently completing her training as a certified fibre sorter, grader, classer. She anticipates becoming fully certified within the next 2 years.
